Technical set up

  • antbase.org is based at the American Museum of Natural History, New York.
  • Databases are in collaboration with the Hymenoptera Name Server at the Department of Entomology, Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio, including currently more than 110,000 Hymenoptera names, aiming at providing the first ever access to all the Hymenoptera species.
  • Educational outreach is developed in collaboration with the Ant Image Database (Japan).
  • The databases are run on Sun and Oracle.

Web-statistics

Difficult to assess, since most pages are made dynamically. In 2001 ca 500,000 hits on stable pages, with a large part on the ant life cycle, a little educational site; Ant Image Database (Japan) with several million hits per year (need be confirmed).
